Finding Calm in a Noisy World

Finding Calm in a Noisy World

For me creating is about managing stress and finding calm in a noisy world.. Painting does this and that is why we need to paint often. I try to create daily and if I miss a few it shows up - I feel off kilter, anxious, out of sorts, and lacking joy. I find painting meditative and it helps me to relax and be in the moment.

When you are totally immersed in a creative endeavour, you may find yourself in what’s known as “the zone” or a “flow state”. The feeling you get when time flies by!

This meditative-like state focuses your mind and pushes aside all your worries even if only temporary.
It is not the results that provide the benefits but the actual process of creating.
Adults tend to be results oriented and want to have a “product” to show for their efforts. What if you reframed that? What if the results achieved where a calm mind, a feeling of relaxation, and lower cortisol?

You don’t have to produce fine art to reap the benefits of painting.
Commit to painting more often. Once a week minimum. If you can set aside that all important creative time you will see an improvement not only in your artwork but also your level of joy.

What are you waiting for?

Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
— Pablo Picasso
